I’m tax attorney Steve Klitzner, and my practice is limited solely to representing individuals and businesses with IRS problems. And I don’t just work on cases where someone owes the IRS money, I also handle audits.
There are three types of audits for you to consider.
One is the correspondence audit where the IRS sends you a letter telling you that they have some information and they think that your tax return was wrong and that you owe some money.
The second type is called the office audit. This is with a tax compliance officer. It generally lasts four hours, and they want you to come to their office and sit with them for four hours while they go over usually a small portion of your tax return.
And the final type is a field audit. This is with qualified revenue agents, and these can be very extensive audits that can go on for months.
In all three of these audits, generally the taxpayer needs help, needs a tax practitioner who can represent them, and in most of these cases my clients had never talked to anyone at the IRS.
I handle everything from start to finish.
